Windows 11 Build 27902: Smoother File Explorer Experience and More

Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 preview build (27902) for members of the Windows Insider Program in the Canary Channel . This update brings a handful of bug fixes and minor improvements, mostly focusing on File Explorer , the Camera app , and general system stability — though it notably does not include any new features .

✅ What’s New in Build 27902?

🔧 General Improvements

This build introduces a small number of fixes aimed at improving the overall experience for Insiders using Windows 11 in the Canary Channel.

📁 File Explorer Fixes

  • A bug that caused File Explorer to forget view settings has been resolved.
  • This issue also affected desktop icons , which could change size or rearrange themselves unexpectedly. Many users, including Microsoft’s own Jen, are relieved to see this fixed.

📸 Camera App Fix

  • The Camera app should now work more reliably.
  • A bug that caused the app to freeze when switching between front and back cameras on some devices has been addressed.

⚠️ Known Issues in This Build

While this build brings some fixes, there are still a few problems that Microsoft is either aware of or actively investigating:

🚨 Important Note for Copilot+ PCs

  • Users who switch to the Canary Channel from the Dev Channel , Release Preview Channel , or retail versions may lose access to Windows Hello PIN and biometric login , with an error message stating:

“Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available” (error 0xd0000225).

  • You can fix this by clicking “Set up my PIN” again in settings.

💥 Kernel Security Check Failure

  • Some users may experience system crashes (bugchecks) with the error KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE , especially when connecting to a VPN .

🎵 The Return of the Windows Vista Boot Sound

  • This build includes a quirky throwback : the Windows Vista startup sound is playing instead of the default Windows 11 sound.
  • Microsoft says a fix is on the way in a future update.

⚙️ Settings App Issues

  • There’s a bug that may cause the Settings app to crash when interacting with options under:
    Settings > System > Power & Battery
  • Additionally, some apostrophes in text fields are not displaying correctly and may show random characters instead.

🖥️ Remote Desktop Glitches on Arm64 Devices

  • Users on Arm64-based PCs may experience graphical distortion or rendering issues when using Remote Desktop .
