Twitch Is Changing the Game with Dual-Format and Rewind

At TwitchCon in Rotterdam, Twitch unveiled several major updates, including support for vertical streaming, a long-awaited stream rewind feature, and other new tools for creators and viewers.

One of the biggest changes is dual-format streaming, which allows broadcasters to send both horizontal and vertical video feeds at the same time. Initially integrated with Aitum Vertical for OBS users, this feature ensures desktop viewers see the standard landscape view, while mobile users get an automatically adjusted vertical layout based on how they’re holding their phone. This update also makes it easier to engage with features like Hype Trains or to subscribe and gift subs while watching full screen.

The vertical format will be tested with select channels this summer before a broader release. Alongside it, Twitch is rolling out the rewind feature, letting viewers go back a few minutes in a live stream if they join late or miss part of the action, then jump back to the live moment seamlessly. Initial testing will start with a small group later this season.

Other improvements include expanded access to 2K streaming for more Partners and Affiliates using HEVC encoding, offering higher quality with lower bandwidth use. The Combos feature, which lets chat members build hype moments using Bits, continues its closed beta rollout. Streamers now also have new promotional tools, including discounted gift sub bundles and flexible promotion time.

Twitch is also making monetization tools available to all streamers — not just Affiliates — starting this summer, while lowering the bar to reach Affiliate status. Clipping features are getting smarter too, with clip suggestions and less disruptive creation options. And in celebration of Mod Appreciation Day, Twitch introduced mobile Mod View for Android and launched the Twitch Moderators Club, a Discord hub for moderators.
