New Linux 6.15 Kernel Adds Improvements for HP Laptops and Bcachefs
Linux 6.15 is officially out , a few hours later than expected due to a last-minute bug report that led to disabling one feature temporarily. Linus Torvalds noted that the final week of development was fairly standard, with minor fixes spread across the kernel, especially in drivers.
Among this cycle’s updates are enhancements for HP ZBook laptops , along with improvements to Bcachefs and io_uring . On the hardware side, several devices received support boosts, including:
- Better mic mute LED control on HP ZBooks
- A new hardware quirk for the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14ASP10
- Restored auto-mute function on Dell Chromebooks
- Support for the CS35L41 audio chip on HP Agusta models
- Pin control definitions for LEDs on Marvell uDPU
- Reverted a change related to the PMIC on Allwinner H6
- Fixed PCI ID detection for Intel Arrow Lake U/H NPU power management
- Added hotkey support for Fujitsu Lifebook S2110
- New clock settings and SDHCI fixes for Rockchip RK3576
On the software front, Bcachefs gained better case-insensitive directory handling through updated casefolding logic—an important feature for compatibility. Meanwhile, io_uring saw performance tweaks, and the memory management system received various fixes and security improvements.
The merge window for Linux 6.16 opens today , though activity may start slowly in the US due to Memorial Day. Torvalds humorously compared the schedule to the USPS motto: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night — nor Memorial Day — stops the merge window.” Except, of course, for last year’s winter storm that actually delayed things.
