Mozilla Releases Firefox 140.0.2 to Fix Remaining Windows Crash Issues

Mozilla has just rolled out another update for its Firefox browser — version 140.0.2 — following the recent release of version 140.0.1 . This latest patch focuses on resolving additional bugs that were causing crashes on Windows systems under specific conditions.

What’s Fixed in Firefox 140.0.2

According to the official release notes, this update resolves a startup crash affecting some Windows users. The issue, tracked as Bug 1974259 , was related to Windows Exploit Protection , a security feature designed to help prevent malicious attacks.

In certain cases, Firefox would crash with one of two errors:

  • ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE
  • ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER

This problem mainly occurred when Exploit Protection was enabled , which is automatically the case for apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store . As a result, Firefox users who installed the browser via the Microsoft Store were most likely to encounter the crash. However, if Exploit Protection was manually enabled system-wide, even the standard desktop version of Firefox could be affected.

Thankfully, Firefox 140.0.2 addresses the underlying issue, ensuring smoother performance regardless of your security settings or installation source .

Firefox 140 Updates: A Series of Fixes

This isn’t the first patch in the 140 series:

  • Firefox 140.0.1 fixed several other crash-related bugs
  • Firefox 140.0 marked the initial major release in this cycle

Mozilla continues to improve stability and reliability, especially for Windows users encountering compatibility issues with newer versions of the OS.
