Microsoft Addresses Recent Windows 11 Update Glitches with KB5062170

Microsoft has released an emergency update, KB5062170 (builds 22621.5415 and 22631.5415), for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. The patch addresses a critical issue preventing successful installation of last month’s security update, KB5058405 , which caused boot errors on some systems.

The bug could trigger a startup failure with the error code 0xc0000098 , displaying the message:
“Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. The operating system couldn’t be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: ACPI.sys.”

Microsoft clarified that KB5062170 is only needed if you encountered this specific error . It is not available through Windows Update and must be downloaded manually via the Microsoft Update Catalog . The update is cumulative, meaning it includes all prior fixes, including those from the May 2025 security release.

However, there is one known issue: users may experience problems with Noto fonts rendering in Chromium-based browsers (like Edge, Chrome, Opera, and Vivaldi) when display scaling is set to 100%. Microsoft suggests temporarily increasing scaling to 125% or 150% until a fix is available.

You can download the update directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog , and more details are available in the official support article .
