Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders

After a brief delay, Nintendo has officially confirmed that pre-orders for the highly anticipated Switch 2 will begin on April 24 in the United States. The console will retain its previously announced starting price of $449.99 , meaning there won’t be any price increase for gamers eager to upgrade.

However, it’s worth noting that some accessories designed for the Switch 2 will come with a higher price tag. While the console itself remains affordable, fans may need to budget extra for the full experience.

Finally, some good news for gamers in the United States eagerly awaiting details about the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. Just days before pre-orders were originally set to begin on April 9, 2025 , the gaming giant delayed them due to new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

Thankfully, the wait is over. Nintendo has just announced that Switch 2 pre-orders will officially kick off in the U.S. on April 24, 2025 . Even better? There’s no price hike in sight. The Nintendo Switch 2 will still start at $449.99 , while the bundle with the console and the new Mario Kart World title will cost $499.99 .

On top of that, Mario Kart World remains priced at $69.99 , and Donkey Kong Banaza stays at $59.99 for both physical and virtual editions. So, whether you’re grabbing the console, the console-plus-game bundle, or one of the main launch titles, you won’t have to worry about any unexpected price increases.

It’s a win-win for Nintendo fans: no delays (anymore), no price hikes, and plenty of exciting options to dive into on launch day.

Unfortunately, the good news ends there. As we’ve seen with other electronic devices since the Trump Administration tariffs took effect, not everything is immune to price increases—and Nintendo accessories are no exception.

In a recent statement, Nintendo explained, “Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions.” Here’s a breakdown of what that means so far for key accessories like the Joy-Con 2 , Pro Controller , and Switch Camera :

  • Joy-Con 2 controllers : Up to $94.99 from $89.99
  • Pro Controller : Now $84.99 , up from $79.99
  • Switch Camera : Increased to $54.99 from $49.99

While a $5 increase across the board may not seem as severe as some of the larger hikes Nintendo might have considered amid ongoing economic uncertainty, it’s still an unwelcome bump for consumers.

And it doesn’t stop there. Nintendo also cautioned that further price adjustments could be on the horizon: “Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.”

It’s a reminder that even though the Switch 2 console itself remains untouched by price hikes, the ripple effects of tariffs and shifting market dynamics are still being felt—especially when it comes to accessories.

Of course, these are all suggested prices from Nintendo. If the Switch 2 preorder proves to be as highly anticipated as expected, we could see price gouging from third-party resellers—a familiar story for major console launches. This trend has been seen with the PS5 , Xbox Series X , and even the iconic Nintendo Wii , where demand often outstripped supply, leaving buyers at the mercy of inflated prices.

Even so, it’s reassuring to know that the United States will have its own pre-order window , which kicks off in just six days on April 24, 2025 . From there, the Switch 2 console , its wide array of accessories , and launch titles like Mario Kart World —along with dozens of other games—will officially hit shelves on June 5, 2025 .

While some price increases are inevitable, fans can at least look forward to securing their spot for what promises to be one of the most exciting gaming launches in years.
