Huawei to unveil first PC chipset this month

Kirin X90 and HarmonyOS for PCs set to debut

Huawei may unveil its first Kirin PC chip for computers as early as May this year, alongside the release of HarmonyOS for PCs, Huawei Central reports, citing insider SmartPikachu. The new processor, which has been rumored since last year, will be part of Huawei’s strategy to reduce its dependence on foreign technology.

Kirin PC is likely to be used in MateBook laptops and the commercial Qingyun series. The chip, built on SMIC’s 7nm process, may follow Apple’s M-series architecture, integrating a CPU, memory, and graphics unit to improve efficiency. The chip is expected to be called Kirin X90 and will compete with Apple’s M3-class processors.

Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system will replace Windows. The launch is supposedly scheduled for May 22 at an event in China, where the Nova 15 series of smartphones will also be unveiled.

There is no official confirmation yet, but the announcement promises to be significant.Source: huaweicentral
