New processor promises to replace Nvidia solutions in China
Huawei is gearing up to launch a new chip, the Ascend 910D, which is expected to compete with Nvidia in the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) market. The new processor is already in the testing phase, and the first samples could be delivered to Chinese partners as early as the end of May. This is the latest step in Huawei’s strategy to strengthen its position in the fast-growing field of AI despite export restrictions imposed by the United States.

The Ascend 910D chip promises to be more powerful than the Nvidia Hopper H100, which has long been a favorite of the Chinese industry. Huawei is actively developing not only standalone AI solutions, but also powerful clusters that can compete with their Nvidia counterparts. For example, the company recently introduced the CloudMatrix 384 cluster with Ascend chips, which can compete in performance with the Nvidia GB200 NVL72 “Blackwell” server.
