Google is providing free battery replacements for Pixel 7a users experiencing issues with swollen batteries.

Google has finally addressed a persistent issue affecting its two-year-old Pixel 7a smartphone: swollen batteries. Reports of this problem have been widespread on platforms like Reddit and Google Support, prompting the company to take action.

Battery Replacement Program

Google has acknowledged that some Pixel 7a devices may experience battery swelling and has launched a free battery replacement program for affected users. To check eligibility, Google provides an online assessment tool where users can input details such as their device’s IMEI number. If eligible, users can proceed with the replacement process. However, Google will physically inspect the device, and if additional damage (e.g., liquid exposure, sharp object damage, or excessive force) is found, the replacement may not be free.

The program is available in select countries, including:

  • United States
  • India
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Singapore

In India and the U.S. , users can opt for a mail-in repair , while other eligible countries offer a walk-in option .

Appeasement Options for Other Regions

For users in countries where the battery replacement program isn’t available—such as Australia , Taiwan , Malaysia , Switzerland , and several European nations—Google is offering compensation options. These include:

  1. Expired Warranty Devices :
    • Users can claim either:
      • A $200 cash payment , or
      • A $300 discount code valid for one year to purchase a Pixel smartphone from the Google Store.
  2. In-Warranty Devices :
    • Google will credit $456 to the user’s account.

What If Your Country Isn’t Eligible?

If your region isn’t covered by either the battery replacement program or the appeasement options, Google advises contacting its support team via the Pixel Help Center for further assistance.

This initiative marks Google’s effort to resolve customer dissatisfaction and improve trust, though it highlights the importance of addressing hardware issues more proactively in the future.
