EA Cancels Black Panther Game, Closes Cliffhanger Games Studio

EA Cancels Black Panther Game, Closes Cliffhanger Games Studio

Back in 2022, EA announced a major partnership with Marvel to create three new games based on its iconic superheroes. One of those titles, revealed in 2023, was a Black Panther game developed by the newly formed studio Cliffhanger Games. The project aimed to let players step into the suit of T’Challa, defending Wakanda in a single-player, story-driven action-adventure.

However, recent reports indicate that the game has been fully canceled. According to an internal email obtained by IGN and sent by EA Entertainment president Laura Miele, Cliffhanger Games is being shut down and its team members are being let go. In addition, EA is cutting staff from some of its mobile and central development teams.

This news comes shortly after EA announced widespread layoffs across multiple studios — including the cancellation of a Titanfall project. Miele described the changes as part of a strategic shift to “sharpen our focus” and invest more deeply in high-potential franchises.

The Black Panther game had remained largely under wraps since its announcement, with no gameplay details or release window ever shared. EA did promise an “authentic” and “definitive” experience, but it seems the project won’t move forward.

Despite this setback, EA is still reportedly developing an Iron Man game — although fans have heard little about it in recent months.
