Microsoft has introduced a new capability in PowerPoint Copilot , allowing users to generate full slide decks using:

  • A PDF file
  • A plain text (.txt) file
  • Or simply typing a natural language prompt

Previously, this feature only supported Word documents. Now, expanding it to include other common formats makes it far more versatile for professionals, students, and content creators alike.

 

How to Use the New Copilot Feature in PowerPoint

Using this tool is simple and intuitive. Here’s how you can try it out:

  1. Open PowerPoint on your preferred platform (web, Windows, or Mac).
  2. Click the Copilot button .
  3. In the Copilot panel, select the option: “Create a presentation from a file.”
  4. You can either:
    • Type the name of a file already stored in the cloud
    • Or manually browse your OneDrive or SharePoint folders using the “Attach cloud files” button
  5. Add more details to your request by specifying what you want Copilot to focus on.
  6. Click “Send” — and watch as Copilot generates a full presentation based on your input.

Once created, you’re free to rearrange slides, add new topics, or refine the structure before finalizing your deck.

 

Why This Feature Is a Game-Changer

This update is especially useful for anyone who needs to create a presentation based on existing documentation — such as reports, research papers, or detailed notes.

It dramatically reduces the time needed to prepare slides, while still giving you full control over the final output.

However, keep in mind that AI-generated content should always be reviewed carefully. While Copilot is powerful, it’s not immune to inaccuracies — so double-checking facts and data is highly recommended.

 

Availability and Requirements

As of now, this feature is available to Microsoft 365 Insiders on the following versions:

  • PowerPoint for the web
  • Windows : Version 2409 (Build 18025.20000) or later
  • Mac : Version 16.88 (Build 24082514) or later

To access this advanced functionality, you’ll need an Enterprise Copilot license .
