CD Projekt Announces Final Update for The Witcher 3 to Bring Cross-Platform Mod Support

As part of the 10th-anniversary celebrations for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — which has now sold over 60 million copies — CD Projekt RED has surprised fans with news of one final major update for the acclaimed RPG.

This upcoming patch will introduce cross-platform mod support , allowing console players to access and install community-created content for the first time. The studio will be using the mod.io platform to enable this feature, giving PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users the ability to browse and apply mods at no extra cost.

This comes about a year after CD Projekt released official modding tools for PC, empowering creators to design new quests, characters, locations, cutscenes, and more.

While an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, the update is expected to roll out later this year across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S . Once live, console players will be able to download and use mods created by the PC community through the mod.io interface.

However, not all PC mods will make it to consoles due to platform-specific content policies and guidelines. All mods must comply with CD Projekt’s Fan Content Guidelines and User Agreement before being made available.

For PC users , the ability to access mods through platforms like Nexus Mods or Steam Workshop remains unchanged, offering near-complete freedom for mod customization. You can find a detailed FAQ from CD Projekt about this update and mod support here .
