Can’t Find Files on OneDrive? You’re Not Alone
If you’ve been trying to locate a specific file in your OneDrive storage only to be met with blank or missing search results, you’re not alone. Microsoft has officially confirmed a widespread issue affecting the search functionality across several platforms.
According to an update to the official OneDrive documentation, the problem currently impacts users on Windows, iOS, Android, and the web interface — though macOS users seem to be unaffected. The issue causes the search bar to return empty or incomplete results, even though the files in question are still safely stored in your cloud drive.
It’s important to note that this is not a data loss issue — your files are still there. The problem lies solely within the search feature, which temporarily fails to locate and display them correctly. If you’ve recently deleted or renamed a file, however, that might be a separate issue unrelated to the current bug.
📱 Not Everyone Is Affected
Good news: Microsoft says the issue impacts only “a subset of users,” meaning it’s not universal. Testing by third-party tech sites showed no issues when searching from various personal and work accounts across multiple devices.
🛠️ No Workarounds Available Yet
Unfortunately, if you’re among the affected users, there’s currently no fix or workaround. Microsoft has stated that manual troubleshooting steps won’t help at this time. This means you may need to browse through your folders manually to locate the file you’re looking for — although the company did recently introduce color-coded folders, which could make the process slightly easier.
Microsoft has acknowledged the disruption this issue may cause and emphasized that it is “working with urgency” to roll out a fix as soon as possible.
