Beyond Windows 10: Other Microsoft OS Versions Dropping Support October 14
Windows 10’s mainstream support ends on October 14, 2025, but Microsoft has now confirmed that several Windows 11 variants will also reach end of support on the same date. While organizations can extend support through paid options or the “free” LTSC channel, systems without extended support will no longer receive crucial security or feature updates after this deadline.
Windows 11 22H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT SKUs Affected
Microsoft has officially reminded customers through its Windows Release Health dashboard that Windows 11 version 22H2 for Enterprise, Education, and IoT editions will cease support on October 14, 2025. This announcement adds to the previously known end of life for Home and Pro variants of the same version, which already concluded on October 8, 2024.
Extended Support Timeline for Business Editions
The Enterprise, Education, and IoT variants of Windows 11 22H2 were originally released on September 20, 2022, providing just over three years of support – an extra year compared to the standard two-year lifecycle for Home and Pro editions. This extended support period for business-focused SKUs is now coming to an end.
Immediate Upgrade Recommended
Users running any of these affected versions should prioritize upgrading to currently supported releases. Windows 11 version 23H2 offers support until November 10, 2026, while version 24H2 extends support through October 12, 2027.
Critical Security Implications
Maintaining a supported Windows version is essential for receiving regular security patches and updates. IT administrators should begin migration planning immediately, while individual users can check their current version by navigating to Settings > System > About > Windows Specifications > Version.
Organizations that fail to upgrade risk exposing their systems to security vulnerabilities and compatibility issues with modern software and hardware.
