Apple’s AI Struggles May Steal the Spotlight at WWDC 2025

Apple’s WWDC is coming up, and while new software updates are expected, AI won’t be the highlight this time.
Despite earlier speculation, Apple has decided to hold off on major AI announcements, including the next evolution of Siri, which has been pushed to 2026.

Behind closed doors, there’s concern that showcasing half-baked AI features at this year’s event could spotlight Apple’s current shortcomings compared to rivals like Google and OpenAI. According to Mark Gurman’s latest report, internal voices worry that an underwhelming AI showing might leave developers and users disappointed.

Instead, Apple is opting for a bolder strategy: waiting until WWDC 2026 to make a stronger push and position itself as a serious AI innovator.

Still, AI will play a supporting role this year. The company plans to open access to its Foundation Models for third-party developers, enabling them to build custom tools using on-device AI for simple tasks like summarizing text.

Additional AI-driven updates expected this year include a battery-saving mode powered by Apple Intelligence, a refreshed Translate app with deeper AirPods and Siri integration, and “AI-powered” enhancements in Safari and Photos.

While these changes are incremental, they signal Apple’s slow but steady steps forward in the AI space.
