Apple is reportedly planning to use titanium for the upcoming Vision Pro 2 to significantly reduce its weight

Apple is reportedly planning to use titanium for the upcoming Vision Pro 2 to significantly reduce its weight.

One of the most significant downsides of the Apple Vision Pro, perhaps second only to its hefty price tag, is its weight. Reports suggest that Apple is investing considerable effort into addressing this issue in the second generation. According to tipster Kosutami on X, the company plans to achieve this by incorporating titanium into the design of the Vision Pro 2, aiming to make it lighter and more comfortable for users.

Digging deeper into the X thread reveals that Apple won’t be using titanium for the entire chassis. Instead, it will primarily be incorporated into the internal structure. The exterior of the headset will still feature aluminum, finished in black, which resembles a “dark graphite blue” hue, reminiscent of the iPhone 5 era.

Additionally, the post on X hints that Apple’s upcoming AR headset might not carry the name “Vision Pro 2.” Instead, it could be called “Vision” or “Vision Air,” reflecting its new, lighter design philosophy.

It will be intriguing to see how Apple balances the use of titanium with its goal of reducing costs in the next iteration, especially given the material’s relatively high price. Striking this balance will likely be key to making the device more accessible while maintaining its premium appeal.
