AnduinOS Steps Up with Windows 11-Like UI in Upcoming 1.4 and 1.5 LTS Releases
AnduinOS 1.4 and 1.5 LTS Roadmap Revealed: A Windows 11-Inspired Linux Distribution Evolves
Anduin Xue, the sole developer behind AnduinOS — a Linux distribution designed to resemble Windows 11 — has shared details about the project’s future.
The upcoming AnduinOS 1.4 , based on Ubuntu 25.10 , is expected in late October 2025 , followed by the long-term support version 1.5 , built on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS , scheduled for April 2026 . While 1.4 will not be an LTS release, 1.5 will offer extended support, making it ideal for users seeking stability without frequent reinstallation.
With many preparing to move away from Windows 10 as its support ends, AnduinOS presents a familiar alternative for those looking to extend the life of older devices, combining a Windows-like UI with the flexibility of Linux.
Among the key improvements planned:
- Development of a dedicated apt repository to streamline updates and simplify upgrades between versions.
- Introduction of a modular system , allowing users to customize features like app stores, GNOME Shell, professional tools, containers, and WSL through layered combinations.
- Compilation of more core components for greater system customization.
By version 1.5 , users can expect two new editions:
- Lite Edition : A minimal GNOME-based system with limited pre-installed software.
- Server Edition : Optimized for server environments.
All editions will remain free and open-source under the GPLv3 license .
Looking ahead, the project also plans to introduce a customization tool and ISO builder , enabling users to create personalized Live environments tailored to their needs. Additionally, optional AI-powered features inspired by Microsoft’s MCP (Microsoft Copilot in Windows) may arrive in future releases — though they’ll be removable for users who prefer not to use AI.
