UWB is on its way
Google has significantly improved the Find My Device network for Android, making it four times faster at finding lost devices, according to media reports. The network, launched last year, was initially inferior to its Apple and Samsung counterparts in terms of tracker detection speed, but recent updates have changed the situation. Now trackers such as the Moto Tag update their location faster than AirTag, thanks to optimized algorithms and Bluetooth scanning.
The Find My Device network uses billions of Android devices to transmit encrypted signals from trackers, helping to locate them even from great distances. Google also noted that more users are turning off the default privacy setting, allowing searches in all locations, not just high-traffic areas. This improves network performance in less crowded areas.
The company announced upcoming support for ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which allows for precise location of objects indoors.
