Android 15 hasn’t even reached 5% of devices

Most Android phones are still running older versions.
Even though Android 16 Beta 4 just launched for Pixel testers and Android 15 is rolling out to Samsung devices running One UI 7, most Android users are still running much older software like Android 14, 13, or even earlier.

Google no longer regularly shares Android version stats, but thanks to data discovered in Android Studio, we now have a fresh perspective. Android 14 has seen significant growth since July, while Android 15 – despite being released months ago – has yet to reach even 5% of devices.

The new data is based on Android phones that visited the Play Store over the course of a week. Last time, Android 10-14 had a market share of 13-20%. Now, Android 14 has pulled ahead, largely due to the slow adoption of Android 15.

With Samsung just starting to roll out Android 15 more widely, experts expect the numbers to change more by summer. However, Google’s new development cycle could mean Android 14 will dominate for longer than usual, even as more new phones ship with Android 15.
